I am not the original author. This is posted as a plugin, but it is actually a replacement for the original Beastmaster -- http://www.curse.com/downloads/details/1563/ -- which is no longer maintained. Only some minimal bugfixes and new pet skills have been made, so that it works with 2.1.
I can't do the French and German clients myself, somebody else needs to provide those localizations. Complain to the original author if those break.
ATTENTION: If you are seeing "unknown skill, please report" messages and want to post about it, then also include what kind of pet you are using. If you don't feel like waiting for me to get around to making another update, then you can add the unknown skill in localization.lua, and the category number in BeastMaster.lua yourself.
TOC update, and pushing to curse.com.
Installation Guide
- Exit "World of Warcraft" completely
- Download the mod you want to install
- Make a folder on your desktop called "My Mods"
- Save the .zip/.rar files to this folder.
- If, when you try to download the file, it automatically "opens" it... you need to RIGHT click on the link and "save as..." or "Save Target As".
- Extract the file - commonly known as 'unzipping'
Do this ONE FILE AT A TIME!
- Windows
- Windows XP a built in ZIP extractor. Double click on the file to open it, inside should be the file or folders needed. Copy these outside to the "My Mods" folder.
- WinRAR: Right click the file, select "Extract Here"
- WinZip: You MUST make sure the option to "Use Folder Names" is CHECKED or it will just extract the files and not make the proper folders how the Authors designed
- Mac Users
- StuffitExpander: Double click the archive to extract it to a folder in the current directory.
- Verify your WoW Installation Path
That is where you are running WoW from and THAT is where you need to install your mods.
- Move to the Addon folder
- Open your World of Warcraft folder. (default is C:\Program Files\World of Warcraft\)
- Go into the "Interface" folder.
- Go into the "AddOns" folder.
- In a new window, open the "My Mods" folder.
- The "My Mods" folder should have the "Addonname" folder in it.
- Move the "Addonname" folder into the "AddOns" folder
- Start World of Warcraft
- Make sure AddOns are installed
- At the Character Select screen, look in lower left corner for the "addons" button.
- If button is there: make sure all the mods you installed are listed and make sure "load out of date addons" is checked.
- If the button is NOT there: means you did not install the addons properly. Look at the above screenshots. Try repeating the steps or getting someone who knows more about computers than you do to help.
Translations
When you download a mod, please be sure that the mod is compatible with your translation of wow. Some mods only work on the US versions, while some only work on some of the various European versions. These variations are called "Localizations".
TOC Numbers (Out of Date Mods)
When Blizzard patches WoW, they change the Interface number. This means that all mods will be "out of date" unless or until the author releases a new version for that interface. Some people go into the .toc files and update the numbers themselves, but this is STRONGLY advised against as it will cause problems locating possible incompatibilities addons. When you log into WoW after a patch, you DO NOT have to delete your interface directory. All you have to do is simply tell WoW to ignore the interface numbers and load all the mods anyway. All you have to do is, while at the "character select" screen, look in the lower left corner and click on the "addons" button. A window will pop up listing all your installed mods.
If you look in the upper left corner of that window there should be a box that says "Load Out of Date AddOns". You want to CHECK this box. Now simply go into WoW normally and all your mods should load. As of the 1.9 patch, you will have to do this after EVERY patch/update that Blizzard posts! If you encounter any problems with a mod after a patch, please be sure to let the author of the mod know so they can fix it.

Mac Support
WoW addons are not platformed based. As such, they can be used on either Mac or PC. You can extract both .zip and .rar files on a Mac using StuffitExpander.

Geline saidFarmbuyer, thank you for updating this invaluable add-on (and for taking flak from ignorant posters). I've been checking the original page fairly regularly, hoping for an update or for a selfless hero such as yourself to announce that you'd tackled it.
I've just now downloaded it, and promise to respectfully and (one hopes) knowledgeably report any issues that I might notice. Please don't let the cretins drive you away from us!

acapela saidedit: link finally came active for me, got a real download page (19:45 EDT 2007/08/23 :).
when i traverse the download link (listed under the "Downloads" section, with the label "20100 new pet skills"), it takes me to a page containing a message that reads: "This project and its downloads are currently unavailable while our moderators investigate it based on user reports."
this is the usual state into which Curse seems to put new things. after a day or so, the state usually changes, and the download link leads to a page containing a list of mirrors. this does not seem to be the case at the moment (at least, not for me).

Kody saidHi, this project was approved yesterday afternoon, shortly after it was uploaded. 24-48 hours is off by about... 24-48 hours on how long it took to get it approved. :)
That said, I'll pass this on because Farmbuyer originally uploaded it as a plug-in, so it creating a totally new project is rather odd.

acapela saidedit: ok, so are we nitpicking terminology? the project was "approved yesterday afternoon", but as of this writing, i still cannot download it. what word would you use to describe this condition (the condition of being able to actually download something new, here on curse)? substitute that word for my use of the word "approval".
original comment:
this is sad.
someone does the work to update and post this... Curse then witholds it "while our moderators investigate"... and people yell at the person who did the work to update/post this.
this is some new policy of Curse's, to withold download links on new things for 24-48 hours. i don't know what sort of checking they do, or why it takes this long (the whole website is flaky... try organizing your favorites into folders for an example of some of the weirdness), but everything i have seen of a new nature goes through this process.
the link will go live "any time now".. its NOT Farmbuyer's fault.
my only suggestion might be to upload this to wowui.incgamers.com, www.wowinterface.com, and/or other(s), and follow up here to supply people with an alternative link.

Farmbuyer said> fix the damn download!
You stupid putz, do you think I have any control over where the download link goes?
I clicked "upload", gave it a fixed version, and the website did its thing. If the download isn't working, it's neither my fault nor my problem. I've submitted a trouble ticket, they'll fix it when they can.
No wonder people no longer volunteer to update addons which are no longer being maintained. If I were the original Beastmaster author, I wouldn't put up with crap like you either. Screw posting fixed versions, if you want any more fixes, you can damn well do it yourselves.

gar2000 saidHey Farmbuyer
Hope you will continue to upgrade this addon and ignore the pretencious comments from some.
I'm a gamer not a programmer and am really glad there are innovative people out there such as yourself.
Thanks
