• About qComments (weekly)
•

This addon shows user comments from wowhead.com to help questing.
It is a modified version of the original qComment addon (credits to ostap):
http://www.curse.com/downloads/details/6426

• The comments table can now be kept open, with scrolling, moving and font scaling
• The database is build weekly from wowhead.com (hence only English quest name support)
• All data is loaded on demand to decrease memory usage
• Characters at a lower level will use only one database, higher level characters will use two databases
• Level requirements for each quest are shown

See Install Guide before asking questions!

Dependencies:

• nQuestLog is required to get qComments (weekly) to work:
http://www.wowace.com/wiki/NQuestLog

Latest version:
http://files.wowace.com/nQuestLog/nQuestLog.zip
• Cartographer can optionally be used to get minimap notes from commentaries:
http://www.curse.com/downloads/details/4947/

Latest version:
http://files.wowace.com/Cartographer/Cartographer.zip

Usage:

1. Expand some quests in nQuestLog frame (be sure the frame is locked)
2. Press and hold down ALT key
3. Move cursor over a quest name
• comments table shows up

To hide the comments table:

• While still holding down ALT key move cursor anywhere outside nQuestLog frame

To keep the comments table open:

• Release ALT key before moving cursor

Additional usage (Cartographer addon needed):

To set notes on minimap manually:

• Press CTRL + ALT and move cursor over a quest name/subject in nQuestLog
• qComments (weekly) will try to find coordinates in the commentaries and place a red X on the minimap

To remove notes from minimap manually:

• Press SHIFT + ALT and move cursor over a quest name/subject in nQuestLog
• qComments (weekly) will delete every red X which belongs to the quest and was placed before on the minimap

/qcm setnotes [on/off]
toggles placing notes (red X) on the minimap on quest acquire using coordinates found in the quest comments

/qcm deletenotes [on/off]

hm, for some odd reason my quartz refuses to work without qComments :) anyway I love qcomments, saves me a lot of alt+tabbing time and in synergy with quest helper makes the best questing combo :)

@HerX:
I also use quartz and did not observe any problems while using qComments.

I am currently working on some changes to improve qComment:

• qComment will be renamed to qComments for consistency reasons
• databases will be loaded on demand depending on the faction of the player: one DB for the Alliance, one for the Horde, and one for both
• thus system memory consumed by qComments will be decreased drastically
• low level chars will use only one database (for their own faction) since quests for both factions are mostly available at higher levels first
• higher level chars will use max. two databases (the one for their own faction and the one for both)
• some small UI enhancements will be added:
• closing the comments table will be easier via menu
• quest names will appear as title of the comments table
• the level required to accept the quest will be shown (nice for friends with a lower level who want to know at which level they are able to accept a specific quest)

Prepare for the new version until monday.

@Curse:
Please fix the css for
and
, min-height (and vertical-align/height for IE) are totally f*cked up... :wink:

The qComment (weekly) Database download link above with a Database build date: 02/11/2008 above doesn't have the right file to download. The qData.lua file in the ZIP is dated 11/20/07, which is older & smaller than the last version put up here.

As well, thanks to not putting version/file dates on the ZIP, people downloading into the same folder would overwrite their more recent version of the file, causing them to have an older copy. And unzipping, many people would overlook the fact its an older file and overwrite the last one from January in the \qComment folder. Not good.

So put back up the January one if the database isn't really updated. Also recommend that you put a date in the name of the qComment-DB.zip files in the future.

My fault. Database reuploaded, sorry for your inconvenience.

Hi, there is a small bug in your .toc file, it says saved variable is 'nCommentsDB' where it should be 'qCommentsDB'. Because of that settings are not saves, resetting to defaults each session. Would appreciate if u fix it :)

@xska2:

Just got a seasonal quest and the mod tried to add a note to the zone "seasonal" and errored out. FYI

• Dec. 21, 2007, 04:16AM (8 months, 3 weeks ago)

"toggles deletion of notes from minimap on quest completion"

Should also delete notes from the minimap on quest abandoned.
Also, I was showing the mod to a friend, and CTRL+ALT'ed my way over every quest I have, and I now have red X's everywhere. Please also add a "Delete every note created by this mod". :)

Other than that, great idea, and no problems yet. You may want to add a comment to the top of the mod description, something along the lines of "Download both files for the mod to operate. Simply clicking "Download" will not work. I too was stopped by the error you get when you dont have the Database file. Lucky for me, I came back to check on why.

• Dec. 10, 2007, 09:52AM (9 months ago)

Addon doesn't save settings between logings.
Every time I have to reenable setnotes option.

Reinstalled the addon, deleted settings fire.
Same thing

@Pax0707:
This is no bug since qComment never saved map notes settings between sessions. If you want to change the default behaviour please have a look at my comment below.
Apart from that I changed the default setting in qComment v2.3.0.2 (see changes).
